2018 Kansas City Summer Camps: General Day and Overnight Camps

Looking for a traditional summer camp in the Kansas City area? Here is our list of 2018 general day and overnight camps – some of these camps have no theme, no greater purpose other than fun; some of them have tons of fun themes to choose from to offer a summer full of fun for your kiddos!

In addition to the listings below, it’s always a good idea to check with your local parks and recreation department. The Kansas City area parks and rec departments are really fabulous, and offer a variety of camps and summer-time activities. Many are listed below, but you can also find their websites by clicking the Classes link on the right side of this page.
  • Asbury Children’s Center at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St. Prairie Village, KS  66208; (913) 432-5573. Summer programming available for K-6.
  • Barstow School: Summer at Barstow offers a spectacular camp experience for children ages 3-18. Tons of options in academics, arts, crafts, cooking, dance, theater, science, technology, math, sports and more.
  • Blue Springs Summer Day Camp (Blue Springs, MO) Open to kids ages 5 – 12 with the option of before and after camp care.  Swimming, field trips, games, crafts, sports and more!
  • Blue Valley Recreation (south Johnson County, KS) has many different summer offerings, including dance, sports, technology and Special Olympics.
  • Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City (KCMO/KCK/Independence, MO) has programs for kids from 5-18. Call your local club for more details on this summer’s offerings!
  • Brookridge Day School (Overland Park, KS) offers summer camp options, including swimming, for kids K-4th grade.
  • Calvary Lutheran Church and School VERB Summer Program (south Kansas City, MO) Vacation, Explore, Relax, Be More! at this high-energy summer experience for kids who have finished kindergarten through 5th grade. Good hours for working parents.
  • Camp ECC (south Kansas City, MO) – Camp ECC is a summer program for preschool children who are 3-5 years old. Camp runs Tuesday thru Thursday from 9am-1pm and each week revolves around a fun theme.
  • Camp Manitowa (Rend Lake, Southern Illinois) offers all the traditional camp activities and the best in camper attention and parent customer service.
  • City of Lenexa, KS – offers multiple camps during the summer, including full day options geared toward school-aged children up to age 12.
  • Camp Chippewa (Ottawa, KS) is a Methodist overnight camp with traditional camp activities for kids from K to 12th grade.
  • Camp Eagle Summit/Camp Eagle Summit Jr. (Lee’s Summit, MO) is a summer day camp with before and after care. The two camps are for kids ranging in age from 2 1/2 years old through 6th grade. Weekly themes with lots of fun activities and outings.
  • Campfire Heartland (2 locations) – traditional day camps and overnight camps. Affiliated with Camp Fire USA and includes Camp Lake of the Woods (for ages 5-15) and Maple Woods Community College (ages 5-12) camps.
  • Camp Summit (Lee’s Summit, MO) – open all summer for kids ages 5 -11. Field trips, daily swimming at Summit Waves, daily snack and a safe, fun, energetic environment for your child.
  • Camp Taum Sauk (Lesterville, MO – southwest of Rolla) is a co-ed residential camp with a variety of sessions for kids ages 8 to 15. ACA accredited with traditional camp activities.
  • Camp Tekakwitha at Prairie Star Ranch (Williamsburg, KS) – sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese of Kansas City, KS, this is an overnight adventure camp for grades 5 through 12 (separate sessions).
  • Camp Wilderness (Lawson, MO) is a Methodist-based camp with lots of different themes throughout the summer. Overnight camp
  • Camp Wornall (Kansas City, MO) is held at the historic Alexander Majors House at 82nd & State Line (Mon-Thurs) and at the John Wornall House in the Loose Park/Brookside area (Fri). Kids ages 6 to 12 will learn about life and childhood in the 1800s with tons of hands-on activities.  Two 1-week sessions available.
  • Camp Wood (Elmdale, KS) is a YMCA residential camp for kids ages 7-17. One and two week sessions are available and include tons of fun camping options.
  • Congregation Beth Shalom (Overland Park, KS) Fun in the Sun Summer Camps offer options for kids ages 18 months through kindergarten.
  • Creative World CampTastic is a Funderful, Laugheriffic, Blastastic summer adventure for kids ages 6-10! Each week, offers a different theme with field trips, activities, and a special event day. Six locations: Belton/RaymoreBlue SpringsLee’s SummitLibertyIndependence, and Kansas City, MO.
  • Cub Scouts of Heart of America Council (various locations) sponsors three to five day long day camps for Cub Scouts as well as residential camps of varying lengths for Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts and Boy Scouts. BB guns, bows and arrows, nature, crafts and games.
  • Eagle Lake Day Camp: (various locations and dates) for children ages 7-12, Eagle Lake focuses on life-on-life ministry through counselor relationships in the midst of an exciting camp experience.
  • Earnest Shepherd Memorial Youth Center (Liberty, MO) – Features 60 acres of hills, creeks, and bridges to roam, and themed day camps for K-6th graders.
  • The Field Trip Club (Olathe, KS) – Campers ages 5-15 enjoy 15 field trip adventures every week for a great summer blend of educational & recreational programs.
  • Goddard School (various locations) has summer care/camps for preschool and elementary school-aged children. Great activities, great hours, different themes each week.
  • Gymboree Play & Music (various locations) typically has special play and music offerings during the summer for babies through age 5.
  • Heartland Camp (Parkville, MO & Olathe, KS) hosts day and overnight camps with typical camp activities including sports, swimming, music, crafts and games as well as regular Bible study.
  • Heartland Therapeutic Riding Horsemanship Camp (Bucyrus, KS) Offers a one-week, therapeutic riding and horsemanship camp for kids with or without special needs.
  • Holmeswood Baptist Church (south Kansas City, MO) August 6-9, 2018 Camp 4D2nd St (Rising 2nd thru 8th graders, 9:00am-4:00pm, $70/camper, includes lunch, snacks and daily field trips; learn and perform a musical in 4 days!)
  • Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City (Overland Park, KS) has summer day camps for all ages as well as sports, LEGO engineering, theater, culinary, dance, art and other specialty camps! Great hours with before & after care available.
  • Johnson County Community College Summer Youth Enrichment Program (Overland Park, KS) has academic enrichment for students in grades 6-12. There are some REALLY cool-sounding camp/courses at JCCC this summer!
  • Johnson County Parks & Recreation Summer Day Camps (various locations) include fun day camps, preschool camps, sports camps, performing arts camps and nature/science camps! Full- and partial-day programs available.
  • Kanakuk Kamps (Lake Taneycomo and Tablerock Lake, MO) are Christian-based overnight camps with varied-length sessions. Campers will enjoy traditional camp activities.
  • KC Parks Summer Enrichment & Sports Camps: Get ready for 10 weeks of fun! Campers work on art projects, play their favorite games and sports, take swim trips, and visit local attractions on weekly field trips.
  • KU Edwards Campus Summer Camps (Overland Park, KS) – KU Edwards Campus is hosting a variety of summer camps for children who are interested in expanding their minds.
  • Learning 2 Fly (Mission, KS) – day camps focusing on youth health, mind and body, art and aerial fitness skills! Activities include daily exercise, community gardening and art.
  • Leawood Summer Camps (Leawood, KS) – Leawood Parks & Recreation offers half and full day camps for kids to explore a wide variety activities.
  • Metropolitan Community College College for Kids offers enrichment opportunities for kids and teens ages 5-17. Classes are designed to develop new interests, teach meaningful skills and excite students about learning.
  • Mission (KS) Parks & Recreation – Mission Summer Camp and Teen n Tween camps offer a variety of age-appropriate activities for kids Kindergarten through age 15.
  • Missouri Military Academy Enrichment and Recovery Academy (Mexico, MO) has day and residential programs geared towards academics and study skills with a variety of activities and sports in the afternoons and weekends. For boys grades 7-12.
  • My Gym (Overland Park, KS) has summer day camps featuring games, relay races, sports, art projects, and more!
  • North Kansas City Schools Community Education Services (North Kansas City, MO) offers summer learning programs.
  • Notre Dame de Sion (Kansas City, MO) hosts a variety of camps at its elementary and high school campuses in a variety of topics and activities.
  • Oakhill Day School (Northland) offers many different sessions for grades 2-9. The sessions include cooking, computers, karate, academics, sports, swimming and more!
  • Olathe Youth Day Camps (Olathe, KS) has tons of options for kids preschool through grade 6 including traditional outdoor camps, LEGOs, Mad Science, art and more. Great hours for working parents.
  • Pembroke Hill School (Kansas City, MO) holds an extensive summer program for kids ages 2-18. There are many themed classes for a variety of interests, plus the hours are excellent for working parents!
  • Primrose School of Overland Park (OP, KS) Summer Adventure Club offers a new theme for campers to enjoy each week! From the great outdoors to science and food fun, Camp Primrose is for children ages 5-12.
  • Primrose School of Olathe (Olathe, KS) Summer Adventure Club offers a new theme for campers to enjoy each week! From the great outdoors to science and food fun, Camp Primrose is for children ages 5-12.
  • Rock Springs Family Camp (Junction City, KS) – overnight sessions for Mom, Dad AND the kids! Horseback riding, swimming, hiking, fishing, trap shooting, crafts and more!
  • St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School (Kansas City, MO) offers Summer in the City morning and afternoon classes in art, music, theater, soccer, basketball, academics, cooking and more!
  • St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Overland Park, KS) sponsors several day camps for boys and girls in K-8, including sports, cheer, chess, cooking, dance and vocal music.
  • Shawnee Mission School District (Johnson County, KS) has an amazingly broad Summer Enrichment Program for students in preschool through 8th grade.
  • Summer Camps at Kids R Kids School (Olathe, KS) has weekly-themed projects, activities and field trips. Great hours for working parents!
  • Tall Oaks Camp (Linwood, KS) hosts several day and overnight camps for the Disciples of Christ Christian Churches. Camps for kids K-12 are available as well as family camps and grandparent camps!
  • Turner Recreation Commission’s Adventure Camp (Kansas City, KS) lets children participate in group games, arts and crafts, swimming and off-site field trips. Camp offerings for ages 5-12.
  • Wildwood Outdoor Education Center (near LaCygne, KS) offers residential camping in a gorgeous setting. An outdoorsy camp with an emphasis on leadership and self-esteem. Full and mini sessions available.
  • YMCA Summer Day Camps (various locations) The YMCA is one of the Kansas City metro’s best resources for kids’ camps. They’ve got sports camps, outdoor camps, fine arts camps and traditional day camps offered through many local school districts.
  • Youthfront Camps (near Edgerton and LaCygne, KS) has Christian-based day camps for kids grades 1-5, and overnight camps for kids in grades 3-12. There are week-long sessions for middle and high schoolers, and half-week sessions for the younger ones. Traditional, fun camp activities! Youthfront Camp West is perfect for upper elementary and middle school age students!
  • Youth Tech Inc., (Kansas City) offers a non-profit computer camp dedicated to providing enrichment opportunities for students with a passion for learning. They offer courses like Video Game Design, Animation, Web Design, Movie Makers and much more.
