Spring Things to Do in KC 2017
April 1 is quickly approaching, and along with it comes many KC-area, family-friendly outdoor activities! Below are a few highlights to enjoy as we head into spring season:
- Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead: With fun farmstead activities and nearly 200 different animals at Deanna Rose, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The relaxed atmosphere includes a milking barn, butterfly garden, Indian encampment, pony rides, 1-room schoolhouse, storytelling times, push pedal tractors, fishing, and a wide variety of events from April 1 – October 31. Click here for a listing of Deanna Rose activities. 13800 Switzer Road in Overland Park, KS; open daily from 9am-5pm, April 1-Oct. 31, 2017; though it’s wise to check in as they typically offer special summer hours after Memorial Day.
- KC Royals Home Opener is April 10, and will kick off a season of baseball for KC. As always, Kauffman Stadium has lots to do for the kiddos: The Royals Outfield Experience, the Royals Hall of Fame, Family Fun Day Sundays, and Summer Fireworks on Friday night games, for starters. A few special events this year include Kids Fest, July 2, Marvel Super Hero Day, July 23, and Star Wars Day, Sept. 10. And don’t forget about Kansas City T-Bones baseball either – the season is a little shorter (it begins in May), but also offers tons of family fun activities to entertain you and the kids.
- Sporting Kansas City Soccer and their United Soccer League affiliate team (think minor leagues), the Swope Park Rangers have definitely made their claim in the hearts and minds of many Kansas Citians. Both seasons are already underway, and offer an action-packed game for any soccer fan in the family. Sporting KC’s unique location at Children’s Mercy Park in the Legends Outlets Kansas City make it a relatively easy place to take the kids, especially with its easy access to surrounding eateries and parking. If you’re looking for a more low-key experience, enjoy the Rangers games at Swope Soccer Village in KCMO.
- Worlds of Fun: Opening day is April 14, and Worlds of Fun is looking forward to another season of fun with the addition of two new rides: the Mustang Runner and Falcon’s Flight. Worlds of Fun also re-designed their front gate to enhance the guest experience. Camp Snoopy, Dinosaurs Alive and lots of tried-and-true family rides await! Of course, there are so many more places and activities opening up for the spring and summer in KC. Check back regularly on KC Kids Fun for farmers markets, parks and playgrounds, berry picking, and other spring/summer outdoor activities and special events coming soon!
