Spring Break Staycation Ideas in KC
For the first time in years, we are getting away for spring break with the family. However, we usually have just as much fun enjoying the sights and family-friendly activities of KC during spring break. Here are some of our favorites:
Venture Outside of KC Limits
Atchison, KS, offers the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum and the Atchison Rail Museum’s outdoor collection of rail cars. If you’re up for a 2-day adventure (and a longer drive), head to Hutchinson, KS, for the Cosmosphere, Strataca Underground Salt Museum, and Sand Hills State Park. A little closer to home is Missouri Town 1855, a cool living history museum that teaches kids what life was like between the 1820s-1860s. Plus, all of these trips offer great spaces for kids to run around and get out their energy!
Enjoy the Great Outdoors
There are tons of places to enjoy all the outdoor beauty that the Greater KC Metro area has to offer! Check out Ernie Miller Nature Center in Olathe, Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary in Liberty, Lakeside Nature Center in Swope Park, Burr Oak Woods Nature Center in Blue Springs, Parkville Nature Sanctuary, or Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, just a few minutes East of the Plaza. Better yet, check out our list of Parks & Playgrounds to enjoy!
Go Irish!
If it’s a great parade you’re in the mood for, celebrate at of the many area St. Patrick’s Day Parades, running March 10 – 17, including Brookside, Lee’s Summit, Shawnee, Martin City, Lawrence, Leavenworth, and of course, the Kansas City Irish Parade.
Check our Events Calendar regularly for an updated listing of events, and our Indoor and Outdoor lists of activities to enjoy in KC this spring break.
