Parks & Playgrounds in KC

KC Kids Fun friends, it looks like we may be in for a week of actual spring weather! Hopefully, all of us can get outdoors this week and enjoy some of KC’s many parks and green spaces. Here are a few of my family’s faves, or feel free to check out our Parks & Playgrounds listing for even more ideas:

Grandview: Valley Park offers tons of rope-climbing fun, giant musical instruments, slides, and more! Freedom Park also offers a a super-fun playground, swingset, gazebo area, and access to the Grandview Historical Society’s Depot Museum. Both of these parks are well worth the adventure, even if you don’t live nearby.

KCMO: What’s not to love about Loose Park? A big, updated playground and sand area, a giant pond to explore, ducks to feed, big green spaces for kite flying, and a chance to stop and smell the roses all make Loose Park a special outing. Check out nearby Mill Creek Park for some cool fountain watching and a great view of the Country Club Plaza. And don’t forget about Swope Park, where every space offers something different to enjoy (including the Kansas City Zoo, Lakeside Nature Center, and the Go Ape Treetop Adventure Course, to name a few).

Johnson County: Antioch Park, with it’s newly renovated Dodge Town, is a great place for everything from birthday parties to a family picnic under a shady tree with it’s expansive grounds and fun play areas. Roe Park also has a fun new playground, great shady areas and fields to play in, and a beautiful walking/bike trail that takes explorers along Indian Creek. Ironwoods Park and Gezer Park in Leawood are great places for relaxing, playgrounds, creek play, or walking/hiking trails. Of course, Shawnee Mission Park offers just about anything an active family could want in a park with its lake, paved and off-road trails, and more.

These are only a few of our favorites – be sure to share your favorite KC-area park in the comments below. We’d love to hear about them!
