5 Fun Ways to Share the Love

Dad-and-kids

There is no question about it that you love your children and showing them you love them can be manifested in many ways. This could include spending time together, leaving small notes, bringing them a special treat when they are having a bad day and much more. In honor of Valentines Day, we wanted to share a few ways to show your kids how much you love them!

5 Ways to Show Your Kids You Love Them

1. Head Into the Kitchen

Many people young and old have heard that food is the fastest way to someone’s heart. Now although this is usually saved for grown-up relationships, spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking for and with your little ones is time well spent.

You don’t have to create complex gourmet recipes; this could just be making heart-shaped cookies with store-bought cookie dough or having your kids help make their favorite meal – you could even just assemble heart shaped sandwiches and cut them into hearts. Again, you don’t have to spend a ton on ingredients or make something messy and complicated; the point is that you are spending time with your little loved ones.

2. Make a Big Impact with Small Gestures

Did your mom or dad ever leave little notes in your lunch box? If they did, you know how important it was to see even a short “I love you” sitting next to your pudding. The little things really do add up and taking a minute or two to write your child a note telling them you love them or that they are smart is a great way to show that you care.

Other small gestures you can incorporate every once in a while include:

  • Read an extra book at bedtime
  • Compliment your child on their accomplishments
  • Have a little surprise ready when you pick them up from school (a favorite snack or favorite song playing)
  • Go for short walks and talk about their day

3. Get Crafty

A great way to show your little ones that you love them is by making craft projects for each other. This doesn’t have to be a difficult 10 step Pinterest project – unless you are into that sort of thing. Construction paper, scissors, markers, and some glue work perfectly fine for a one on one – or two on one – craft project and are inexpensive.

4. Project Idea: Popsicle Stick Family Puppet Show

All you will need for this project is:

  • Colored construction paper
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Your imagination

Have each member of your family create a popsicle stick version of themselves – if your kids are still developing their motor skills, help them create their popsicle stick puppet – by cutting out pieces of construction paper and drawing their face on the construction paper. You can also make clothes, favorite toys, and accessories to add to your puppet. Glue all of the pieces to your popsicle stick and put on a play for grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or family friends about why you love your family!

Each member of the family can either play themselves, or you can swap sticks and play one another.

5. Put it on Paper

If your kiddos are able to read, write them a letter and tell them why you love them. If they are too young to read but are able to comprehend words, read your letter out loud to them at bedtime. This is something very special that can be shared between the two of you. They will keep the letter for years to come and look back on their fond memories with you from childhood.

There is no definitive list that tells us how to show our kids that we love them. How you show love is completely up to you and sometimes it can be as easy as just saying “I love you” before they leave for school.
